Apartment cleaning changes for every season, but there are some commonalities. We’ll start with winter, but make sure to check back here as we update this blog for each season with a few helpful tips!
Many Types of Commercial Cleaning Services
Some commercial cleaning companies focus on offices while others specialize in industrial facilities. Commercial residential facilities like apartment buildings are often left out of this vein of thinking, but Kep Klen has a professional team of cleaning experts who can handle whatever type of facility they enter.
Making an apartment building beautiful is a unique challenge in that it involves a combination of public spaces where professionals will generally clean and private spaces that are often left up to residents.
Kep Klen is dedicated to keeping living spaces clean, which is why we’ve prepared this blog. Each season has different requirements if you’re going to keep your living space clean. Check back here on a regular basis to learn about three of the top cleaning recommendations we have to keep your own space beautiful.
Spring, summer, fall, and winter all pose unique challenges to keep your facility clean. The three simple steps below will make getting to the end of the season with a clean home a breeze.
Winter Cleaning Tips
Winter is coming and, though we’re still in the middle of fall, temperatures are beginning to fall quickly. Soon enough, snow and salt are going to be omnipresent and inescapable. Particularly in a city like Denver, winter cleaning can be especially challenging. However, there are a few things you can be proactive about to prevent a required massive spring-cleaning operation.
1. Cleaning Begins Before you Enter Your Apartment
Especially if your front door opens to the outside, as opposed to an interior hallway, cleaning your apartment begins by ensuring the entrance area outside is tidy, free of salt, and free of snow. This will accomplish two things.
First, you will prevent excess snow and salt from being tracked into your home. If the area leading up to your front door is clear, unwanted snow, ice, and salt will begin to drop off of people’s feet before they track it inside. Not only will the snow be less likely to enter, but the area will look nicer.
Second, a clean area outside your front door lets visitors know that they can begin stamping off snow or salt long before they step foot inside. Imagine there is a foot of snow on the ground. If a significant area in front of your door is cleared, you and visitors actually have some room to clean off your boots. Don’t just clear off enough space so that snow doesn’t fall immediately when you open the door. Make sure there is some room for people to stand.
2. Prepare a Mud Room
“Room” might be a bit of an exaggeration, here. Most apartments, after all, don’t dedicate square footage to a separate entrance area. However, you can create a dedicated zone immediately inside your front door where boots, jackets, or anything else covered in snow can be removed.
If you’ve cleared the outside, this area should remain relatively clean throughout the winter months. Sure, you are going to have to wipe up water occasionally and do some extra maintenance, but keeping snow and salt limited to the entrance of your home will do wonders for the rest of your space.
Make sure to lay down extra floor mats and consider stocking the entrance with a few towels to allow yourself and guests to wipe away snow and water before taking more steps inside.
3. Get Rid of Salt Right Away
Even with exhaustive precautions, the salt will always find a way into your home. It may take until mid-winter after you’ve become a bit more lax about your entryway, but eventually, you will start to see that white residue forming on your floors. Floors, especially hardwood, can be damaged if salt is allowed to collect on them.
Staining and scratching are both permanent yet avoidable problems. Run over your carpets and hard floors with a vacuum, and make sure to regularly hit them with a mop or wet wipes to keep everything clean.
